The New Smartec ST-RB500BR-SS Outdoor High-Speed Barrier With Support For Booms Of 3–6 M In Length

Smartec's range of products for access control systems has been expanded with the new automatic barrier ST-RB500BR-SS

It features the ability to handle booms from 3 to 6 meters long, an opening speed of 0.7 seconds (the highest in the Smartec line), and an extended service life of 12 million cycles in intensive mode. For connecting peripheral devices, the high-speed barrier is equipped with all necessary inputs and outputs and additionally supports the RS-485 interface. The device can be used to restrict vehicle access to guarded parking lots, parking areas, residential areas, and private property.

The ST-RB500BR-SS barrier's versatility extends to 3, 4, 5, and 6-meter booms and adjustable left/right orientation. Boom raising/lowering speeds can reach 0.7, 1.5, 2.5, and 4 seconds, respectively, distinguishing this high-speed barrier from earlier Smartec models. A universal bracket allows the boom to be mounted either rigidly or with a tilt mechanism in the event of a vehicle impact (in this case, the boom is retracted rather than damaged). The ST-RB500BR-SS also features an adjustable auto-reverse function.

The barrier's extended service life of up to 12 million opening/closing cycles under intensive operation is achieved through the use of an AC servo motor and the absence of balancing springs in the high-speed device's design. Another advantage of this new product is its high reliability: the high-speed barrier features a stainless steel housing with an IP55 climate protection rating, providing increased corrosion resistance, durability, and vandal-proof protection with minimal maintenance. A wide operating temperature range (from -40 to +70°C) expands the ST-RB500BR-SS's installation options.

Along with the power mechanism that raises and lowers the boom, the high-speed barrier is equipped with an electronic control unit with all the necessary interfaces for connecting peripheral devices. For example, the ST-RB500BR-SS control unit has open/close/stop inputs, inputs for connecting security equipment and a radio control receiver, as well as outputs for traffic light control and boom position indication. In addition to standard inputs and outputs, the Smartec barrier control unit supports an RS-485 interface for integration into various security systems.

The use of a multifunctional controller allows the ST-RB500BR-SS barrier to operate in standalone mode, controlled by a remote control. The barrier can also be integrated into an access control system, using, for example, long-range vehicle identification readers, such as the Smartec ST-LR320. In such a system, a reader installed on the high-speed barrier remotely recognizes the code stored on the identification card, typically located under the vehicle's windshield. Using a long-range identification reader significantly reduces barrier passage time, which is important for facilities with high traffic volumes.
