Smartec ST-NS209MB-MD 9-Port PoE Switches for Security Systems Introduced

expo electronica

ST-NS209MB-MD are non-administered switches from the budget line of Smartec network equipment.

They distribute traffic in Ethernet networks of IP video surveillance systems, access control, VoIP, etc., and are also used to supply power to connected IP devices using PoE technology. The new switches with 9 PoE and 2 Uplink ports provide automatic detection of the type of the connected device and the PoE standard it supports, the data transfer rate, and the cable type (MDI/MDIX), so they do not require complex configuration.

With a total power budget of 90 W, ST-NS209MB-MD switches are capable of allocating up to 30 W to each PoE port, which allows connecting IP devices of various power levels to them, such as IP surveillance cameras, access control equipment, Wi-Fi access points, VoIP phones, etc. At the same time, switches with PoE ports can service up to 9 PoE-compatible devices, supporting a data transfer rate of 10 or 100 Mbps. To connect to other network equipment, such as a switch or router higher in the logical structure, ST-NS209MB-MD are equipped with two gigabit Uplink ports.

The implementation of automatic configuration significantly simplifies the commissioning of the ST-NS209MB-MD switch, as well as other unadministered network equipment. Thus, the automatic cable type detection function allows using switches with PoE ports together with a network device using both a straight (MDI) twisted pair and a crossed (MDIX) one. In addition, the ST-NS209MB-MD provides automatic detection of the connected device and the PoE standard it supports (IEEE802.3af, IEEE802.3at), as well as automatic detection of the data transfer rate.

An additional advantage of the ST-NS209MB-MD is the support of the VLAN + EXTEND mode, which allows for increased security and increased data transmission range. In the port isolation mode (VLAN), devices controlled by a switch with PoE ports can be logically divided into subnets, limiting access to them from the outside. The EXTEND mode provides data transmission via PoE technology at a distance of more than 100 m, without the use of PoE repeaters. The functionality of the ST-NS209MB-MD includes a combination of these two modes, which provides for an increase in the communication range to 250 m, but with a speed limitation of 10 Mbps.
