New unmanaged 16-port Smartec PoE switch with additional modes and indication

The Smartec family of switches now includes the ST-NS316MB-GD unmanaged PoE switch, equipped with 16 Ethernet ports and 2 Uplink ports

The device "delivers" up to 30 watts per port with a total budget of 250 watts. This PoE switch automatically detects the data rate, the type of connected device and the PoE standard used, as well as the type of cable (MDI/MDIX). To provide an increased communication range (up to 250 m), the novelty supports the V+E mode of operation with port isolation. Recall that ST-NS316MB-GD, like other switches, is designed to work with IP cameras, IP phones, network hubs and other devices to which it is impractical or undesirable to connect a separate power cable.

The ST-NS316MB-GD switch is easy to commission and maintain due to the fact that the device is not administered, that is, it is practically not configurable. This 16-channel PoE switch automatically detects the data rate, and it also detects the type of connected device and the PoE standard it supports. It is important to note that the switch ports also have an auto-sensing function for cable type, which allows the use of both straight (MDI) twisted pair (MDI) and crossed (MDIX).

The connection to a switch, router, or NVR that is superior in logic to the switch is through either of its two uplink ports. Unlike the 16 RJ-45 ports, which provide a data rate of 10 or 100 megabits per second, the RJ-45 uplink port supports speeds of up to 1000 Mbps. Note that this PoE switch delivers up to 30 watts of power to each of the 16 ports with a total budget of up to 250 watts.

Extended range mode is supported by this PoE switch, along with standard mode. For example, in standard operation, the data transmission distance does not exceed 100 m, and the EXTEND mode allows you to increase this figure up to 250 m, while the speed is limited to 10 Mbps. VLAN mode provides port isolation to increase the security of data transmission, when devices connected to a PoE switch via 16 ports are divided into subnets and can "communicate" with each other only within them. Note that the EXTEND and VLAN modes work "in pairs": when the mode switch is set to the "V+E" position, the combined mode is enabled, in which the communication range is increased, and the PoE ports are isolated from each other and exchange data only with the Uplink ports.

The switch can also be installed and operated in an unheated room, as its operating temperature range is from -10 to +55 °C. This 16-port PoE switch can be installed in a standard 19" rack or used in a desktop format, and its design provides ESD protection up to 4 kV and lightning protection up to 6 kV, which is especially important when used with cameras, working on the street. It should also be noted that there are LEDs on the switch case that inform about the power status of the device, operating mode and network connection.
